Peterborough City College approached us to project manage a new Sensory Room for their learners and with an unused classroom available and a vision of an underwater theme, we got to work on the illustration. We started by holding workshops with the leaners so they could create a huge collection of doodles, artwork and textures which we would later use in the final wall vinyl illustration.
The brief was to keep shapes simple, bold and colourful so we illustrated a suite of underwater creatures, plants and items. Here’s where we used the scanned in artwork to create interesting texture and shading to the characters. These designs were then applied in a hard wearing vinyl. We also paired up with local carpenters to build several items for the room including benches, storage, submarine wreckage and a clamshell themed seating area.
We loved working on this project and we are over the moon to hear the learners all have their favourite zones to claim as their own when they use their room!
