Paper Rhino also held a workshop as part of Sustainable Fashion Week (see programme design post), exploring natural dyeing techniques. Plant-based dyes produce unusual colours which can be subtle or vibrant, the unpredictability of the result making them exciting to use.
As part of this workshop Paper Rhino memeber Amanda shared natural dye techniques, including learning to create a binder agent between the fabric and dye and the use of plants, food or waste (such as nettles or avocado skins) to create pigments, as well as hammering flowers and leaves onto fabric to create patterns.
