A Creative Co-op
We held a workshop at Ferry Meadows in the Discovery Den for young people aged 14 and over. The focus of the session was exploring mark making inspired by nature and using it to develop original characters.
To begin, we headed outside to forage for natural materials and look closely at the patterns found in leaves, bark, stones and other textures. Everyone then used what they’d gathered as inspiration to create their own unique patterns back indoors.
The session naturally shifted into doodling and character design, with plenty of sharing along the way. We brought along some of our favourite books and prints to spark ideas, which the group really enjoyed. A couple of standout favourites were Creatures by @ShauncyTan and Fungarium by @katiescott_creative.
As the session progressed, the group began turning their smaller sketches into larger drawings, combining elements from nature with their own imagination. The results were full of personality and really captured the playful, thoughtful energy of the day.
If you’re interested in a bespoke creative workshop like this one, feel free to get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.
