Whilst travelling through South America, Lynn and Pete from Tacos & Flipflops vegan cafe came across a heartbreaking scene: poachers trying to sell a baby sloth to tourists. Knowing its mother had almost certainly been killed, they stepped in, refused to pay, and rescued the tiny creature, taking it to friends at an animal refuge. Despite their efforts, ‘Sydney Squirmish two-toed sloth’ didn’t survive. Sloths rarely live without their mothers, and Sydney’s story remains a bittersweet reminder of both cruelty and courage.

Years later, that act of compassion has inspired this mural. The design, sketched collaboratively by Amanda Rigby, Rose Croft, Emily Bowers and Lee Mason during a spontaneous pub doodle, was later painted in vibrant colour with Lynn Jobson from Tacos joining the team. The project was made possible through the Josh Schoolar Street Art Fund. Founded by Josh’s family and managed by Graffwerk, the fund honours Josh’s love of creativity and street art, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire UK artists and collectives.
